Obituary for Dwight "Tators" Welshans

Dwight “Tators” Welshans, 98 of Colliers, WV, passed away at 3:21 AM on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Mary Ann Manor, Follansbee, WV, under the care of the staff and Amedisys Hospice.

Dwight was born on April 25, 1920 in Colliers, WV. He was the son of the late Clarence and Laura (Burris) Welshans.

Dwight served his country proudly in the United States Army Engineer Company during WWII. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Follansbee, WV. Dwight retired from Westinghouse Electric, East Pittsburgh, PA. Many will remember him for working numerous construction jobs, hunting, gardening and doing word search and crossword puzzles.

In addition to his parents, Dwight was preceded in death by his two brothers William and Clarence Welshans, five sisters, Alice, Mary Marko, Ann Anderson, Thelma Graham, and Beatrice Bishop and his partner of many years Millie Kuszaj.

Dwight is survived by his caregiver for many years, his son, Dwight “Mike” Welshans of Colliers, WV, four daughters, Linda Perkins of Pittsburgh, PA, Roberta “Bobbie” Dillon (Ron Kaufman) of Wintersville, OH, Kathy Roupe of Follansbee, WV and Drema Peterson (Guy Carosso) of Turtle Creek, PA, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, his companion Mary Collins, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, April 25, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM and again on Friday, April 26, 2019 from 11:00 until time of Funeral Service at 12 Noon at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304)527-1717 with Pastor Tim Colvin, officiating.

Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, Colliers, WV with Military Honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad and the WV Army National Guard.
